Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado thanked President Boric for his position in the face of Nicolás Maduro’s self-proclaimed victory.

The leader of the opposition in Venezuela, María Corina Machado thanked Chilean President Gabriel Boric for his position after the elections in his countrywhile ruling out the possibility of holding new elections, as proposed by Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

“The elections took place and Venezuelan society expressed itself in very adverse conditionswhere there was fraud and we still managed to win,” he said.

Machado’s gratitude to President Boric

Referring to Chile’s position after the self-proclaimed victory of the Chavista Nicolás Maduro, María Corina Machado said that “I must say that as a Venezuelan I am very grateful to the Chilean government, to President Gabriel Boric, to Parliament, and grateful to the Chileans as a people in general“.

“It is one of the countries where We have felt greater agreement across the political spectrumwhere there has been a firm and unequivocal proposition,” said the opposition leader in an interview with T13.

“Many wanted to come and were turned back. I think President Boric has had a very clear, very firm position, very respectful of human rights.“, he added.

He also said that from his perspective, “unquestionably Chile would have a very important role to playbecause it has shown that the conflict in Venezuela is not about left or right, it is something much bigger.”

“It is about respect for the Liberal democracies versus totalitarian systemsrespect for human rights versus a system that commits crimes against humanity,” he concluded.
