Mariano Cesar: “Latin American content will have a key role in Max”

Max, the entertainment destination that brings together stories for everyone in one place, is now available in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the months after its launch, Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform will have more than 37,000 hours of content in a wide variety of genres and formats, from its extensive family of brands including HBO, Warner Bros., the DC universe , Discovery, Discovery Home & Health, ID, Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, Cartoonito and adult swim.

Starting today, audiences will be able to find what they want to watch much faster thanks to a robust, customizable platform that offers a complete and differentiated viewing experience for all members of the family.

Max also brings an environment for boys and girls, incorporating a children’s profile along with parental controls, and an expanded offering of content for all ages, including dedicated spaces for Cartoon Network and Discovery Kids programming.

“The launch of Max in Latin America opens new avenues of growth for Warner Bros. Discovery’s multiplatform offering, giving audiences in the region a variety of options to enjoy their favorite content. “Max will always have a great story to offer, for every moment, every emotion and for everyone,” commented Fernando Medin, President and General Director of Warner Bros. Mariano Cesar, content spokesperson for the platform, spoke with El Espectador about the news that Max brings to its users regarding its catalog, which will expand by 50%.

Why was the decision made for HBO Max to become Max?

For us it means an opportunity for great changes, among them, the possibility that the subscriber will have to access more content because the number of titles will increase by almost 50%. The idea is to reach places that we had not been able to reach with the HBO brand. That includes incorporating content types from all Warner Bros. Discovery brands, including the ones we already know: DC, Cartoon Network, etc.

Regarding the browsing experience, what are the new features that the platform brings in this new version?

The possibility of more easily accessing that content is interesting; one of the challenges in the world of streaming has to do with navigation to get to what interests you. We have content for each member of the family and that has to do with a faster, more efficient, simpler search engine with the possibility of customization so that you can create your route within the platform, where you will be able to put a pin on each user for greater privacy. In conclusion: ease of search and use, greater personality and more content are what excites us about this renewal.

What is the challenge behind organizing and filtering content?

It is a process that starts from different points of view, we are fortunate to produce globally with different brands that represent important quality standards for the audience. When you think of HBO, you think of a very high quality of content creation, of challenging, of presenting something never seen before, that pushes the limits. Important announcements have been made this year, such as the new Harry Potter series and the second season of “The House of the Dragon” and that is a great starting point. Max will represent the arrival of new brands that will complete the catalog in different genres.

And the content produced in Latin America?

It is very important, in fact we will have available the Colombian film “On the other side of the garden”, inspired by the autobiographical novel by the poet Carlos Framb, in addition to three productions made in Brazil and Mexico: “City of God”, “Like water for chocolate ” and the biography of Chespirito. These are some of the examples of content that we know that in these challenges must be built from layers that add up. We believe that original Latin American content plays a key role, not only for the continent, but also what there is to offer beyond. We are proud of Latin American talent, so we know that there will be other audiences interested in this.

Novels have a very important role in Latin American culture, will there be space for them on the platform?

Of course, soap operas have been a genre deeply rooted in Latin American DNA for more than 70 years. We at HBO Max already had a very successful experience with the acquisition of Turkish novels. That will continue, and we will also incorporate Spanish novels. and we are also going to produce our own novels. We have two that are in production and we will announce another soon… we believe that we will be able to create and build on this legacy more similar content
