Madurai district BJP leader and former DMK MLA Dr Saravanan has said that the High Court verdict in the Maridas arrest case will be a lesson to the DMK tyrannical regime.
Maritas, a far-right supporter and UTU supporter who has been consistently critical of the DMK government, has been widely accused of being critical of the DMK government over the death of Bipin Rawat, commander-in-chief of the three forces. He was subsequently arrested by the Madurai police. The petition was filed in the Madurai branch of the Chennai High Court on behalf of Maridas seeking to quash the case and stay the trial. Judge GR Swaminathan, who heard the case, dismissed the case against Maridas. Although the case against Maridas has been dropped, there is no way he can be released from prison. 
Chennai police have also arrested Maridas in connection with a case of threatening journalists with a fake email. Therefore, Maridas should be acquitted of that case as well. However, the release of Maridas from the arrest case by the Twitter post has given impetus to the BJP and the Hindu establishment. BJP district secretary and former DMK MLA Dr. Saravanan met reporters in Madurai to protest against the arrest of Maridas.
He said, “The DMK government has registered a false case against the national thinker Maridas. When he was arrested, he was taken away by the police. The High Court today quashed a false case filed by the DMK government against the planned arrest of Maridas. The court ruled that YouTube also had the right to freedom of expression. The verdict is a lesson to the DMK’s tyrannical rule. When the DMK came to power, the people feared that anarchy would ensue.
As soon as we heard the news of Maridas’ arrest, we stood in support of Maridas in the name of BJP leader Annamalai Uttara. This judgment of the High Court case will add this victory to all YouTubers. We will face false charges against us legally. Let no one even comment against the BJP. But there is a limit to everything. If it is violated, action can be taken, ”said Saravanan.
