The future of Marie Claire enters a new phase. The address of the historic textile company Vilafranca has already requested voluntary bankruptcy proceedings, a legal procedure that allows companies that cannot pay their debts to try to reach an agreement with their creditors. Furthermore, the company has extended the temporary regulation file for three more months employment (PEA) which was launched at the end of June, which in practice means that the Els Ports factory will continue with zero activity, at least, until the end of the year.

The presentation of the bankruptcy proceedings, which became effective this week, occurs almost three months after Marie Claire agreed with the unions on dismissal of 190 of its workers, 70% of the workforce. The rest (72 professionals from the Vilafranca factory and 33 from other areas of the country) entered an ERTE of three months duration with a possible extension of others, a possibility that has finally become effective.

The more than a hundred workers who remain at Marie Claire will remain at home until the first days of 2024 and at the Els Ports factory the machines have already been stopped for a long time. In fact, andAt this time only the security guards and four professionals who prepare and send the packages are working with the merchandise that was compromised.

Although the workers already knew that the company could extend the ERTE until the end of the year, the confirmation of the news has meant another splash of cold water for a workforce whose morale remains low. And it is even more so because, as this newspaper has learned, The company’s management has informed the representatives of the employees that they still cannot find investors who inject sufficient liquidity to guarantee the continuity of the textile factory, even if it is just a minimum.

And the plans of B2TEx (owner of Marie Claire for a couple of years) involve look for an investment group that will inject between 3 and 4 million eurosand money that would allow the company to carry out its viability plan. A plan that would involve maintaining three production lines in the Vilafranca factory: medicinal stockings, compression stockings and racing stop tights. The rest of the production (pyjamas, underwear and swimsuits) would be imported from abroad, mainly from Asian countries.
