Marileidy Paulino claimed gold in the 400m final at the Paris Olympics on Friday, August 9th. The Dominican Republic athlete achieved the fastest time in Olympic history: 48.17 seconds. This remarkable performance surpassed the previous record set by Marie-José Pérec in 1996.
Paulino dominated the race from the start, opening up a significant gap on her competitors. Her time ranks sixth all-time, making her the fourth-fastest woman in history.

Paulino’s time is within 0.57 seconds of Marita Koch’s world record (47.60 from 1985). She previously won silver in Tokyo in 2021 and also claimed silver in the 4x400m relay.
Fellow runner Naser secured his first Olympic medal with a time of 48.98. Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland rounded out the podium with a time of 48.98.
