The domestic retail sector for marijuana has grown rapidly in Thailand. This industry is estimated to reach $1.2 billion by 2025 but despite this the government has taken this step. ‘I want the Health Ministry to amend the rules and re-list marijuana as a narcotic,’ Prime Minister Thawisin said. The ministry should make rules to allow its use only for health and medical purposes.
A decision may be taken by the end of this year
It has not yet been clarified by the Thai government when marijuana will be re-listed as a narcotic. It is believed that the use of marijuana may be made illegal again by the end of this year.
