Marina Silva, Minister of the Environment, said this Monday (1st) that “about 75% to 80%” of illegal miners in the Yanomami Indigenous Land have already left the region since the beginning of the federal government’s operation in the area.
Marina’s statement was made at a press conference held alongside Sônia Guajajara, Minister of Indigenous Peoples, and Nísia Trindade, Minister of Health. They traveled to Roraima after the attack by miners that caused the death of one person.
According to the Minister of the Environment, the actions of the Federal Highway Police and the Federal Police will be intensified on site, as well as being carried out in an integrated manner with the support of the Armed Forces.
“The actions will be intensified, we will reinforce the teams from Ibama, the PRF, the PF, with support from the Armed Forces, which is essential for logistical support, the entire operational part, so that we can respond at the height”, stated.
Guajajara, in turn, emphasized that the intention is for this new offensive against the miners to take place “in the most peaceful way possible”, without what she called “bloodshed”.
“We are not, in any way, encouraging these conflicts. We want to ease this situation. We don’t want bloodshed. And that’s why we come here in Boa Vista once again to bring this presence of the Brazilian State and reinforce this performance of the Operation Liberation operation within the Yanomami territory”, he said.
