Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco “remains open to diversified partnerships which take into consideration common interests, fully respect the sovereignty of each party, and aim to promote mutual understanding”, affirmed, Tuesday in the House of Advisors, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki.

In response to an oral question on “the developments of the maritime fisheries agreement with the European Union (EU)”, Mr. Sadiki specified that these partnerships must also be based on “the sustainable management of marine resources in the waters Moroccans, the protection of the national maritime economy and the preservation of the sovereignty of the Kingdom over all its waters and its exclusive economic zone.

The government official further noted that the maritime fishing agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the EU is still in force, and has been for 30 years, and that it is currently being implemented through a series of bilateral agreements and executive protocols.

In this wake, he continued that the last protocol signed in 2019 expired on July 17, 2023, considering that the renewal of it “remains mainly linked to an EU position”.

Regarding international markets, Mr. Sadiki said that Morocco is present in various markets across the five continents “thanks to its accumulated experience, through the supply of high quality fishing products and full compliance with fishing standards. health safety”.

The maritime fishing sector presents significant export and development potential, he maintained, expressing the Kingdom’s readiness “to study all new proposals and any negotiations in this regard on the basis of available potential.”
