Mark Warner, Jennifer McClellan Reelected in Virginia Elections

Democratic Senator Mark Warner has been reelected to a fourth term in the U.S. Senate, according to AP projections reported by WWBT. The election results come as Virginia voters cast ballots for all 11 U.S. House seats and three proposed constitutional amendments on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

In the 4th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Jennifer McClellan has been reelected to the House of Representatives, the Associated Press reports. Following her victory, McClellan released a statement saying, Thank you to the voters of the 4th District for entrusting me to serve you for another term, according to the Associated Press.

High turnout reported in early voting

The 2026 midterm cycle saw a significant surge in early participation. In Fairfax County, more than 227,000 voters cast ballots through early voting, which concluded at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, according to data collected by the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP). Data collected by the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) shows this represents a nearly 62 percent increase compared to the 140,225 people who voted early in the 2022 midterm election.

Statewide, over 1.2 million Virginians had already voted in the 2026 midterms, a figure that nearly doubles the pace of the 2022 election. Within Fairfax County, the vast majority of those early votes—nearly 172,000—were cast in person, while more than 55,000 were cast by mail.

Contested congressional and local races

In the 1st District, Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor is challenging Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, who has served in that position since 2007.

In the 6th Congressional District, Republican incumbent Ben Cline is being challenged by Democrat Beth Macy. Cline, who was first elected to Congress in 2018 and previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018, says he provides conservative, common-sense solutions. Macy, a journalist and author of “Dopesick,” has outperformed the incumbent in fundraising, though election forecasters continue to rate the district as safely Republican.

The Virginia Department of Elections stated that polling places have generally been running well, though some localities dealt with a limited number of ballots that machines could not read, necessitating the delivery of new ballots. At the Meadowdale Library in Chesterfield County, precinct chief Jane Wynn reported that 187 voters had cast ballots by 11:30 a.m.

Voters who did not have identification at the polls could fill out a confirmation statement or cast a provisional ballot. Those using provisional ballots have until noon on the Friday following the election to provide identification or sign an ID confirmation statement to their local electoral board.
