After more than 18 years at the helm of that Internet monster formerly known as Facebookand for about a year as Meta, Mark Zuckerberg could be preparing for leave office of executive director. This is stated by ‘The Leak’, a medium that, citing “internal sources”, points out that the father of the digital advertising monster would have chosen to take the exit door alone. He would not have been forced by investors.
It is also pointed out that the commitment of the company for the construction of the metaversothat kind of new digital world in which the user will be able to replicate life itself thanks to the use of technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, “will not be affected” by the decision. It is therefore understood that, in principle, the creation of the next version of the Internet would still be in Meta’s interest, even without Zuckerberg at the helm of the ship.
The information from ‘The Leak’ has not taken long to be refuted by the technology company. Specifically, by Andy Stone, Meta’s head of communication, who has responded to the news via Twitter stating, simply, “this is false.”
Whatever eventually happens with Zuckerberg, there is no doubt that Meta is in the most difficult moment of its nearly two decades of history.
The drop in advertising revenue, the development of new privacy tools on Apple devices, the entry of new competitors such as TikTok, and the huge investment for the creation of the metaverse have caused the company to lose much of its value.
In just one year, the shares have fallen more than 60%, which has caused Zuckerberg’s personal fortune, like that of investors, to be greatly reduced. The drop in profits has also caused the company to have to make a significant cut in the workforce and investors have come to question the course chosen by the executive for the company.
