When Oliver Zille unexpectedly resigned from his position as head of the Leipzig Book Fair in the summer, many industry experts interpreted it as an alarm signal. Leipziger Messe GmbH has now presented a successor: Astrid Böhmisch (photo) will take over responsibility for the event on January 1, 2024. The company announced this in the afternoon.
The studied German and English studies major previously worked in Berlin as a business consultant for media companies and, as general manager, was responsible for the German-speaking markets of Bookwire GmbH, a company for the digitalization of the industry. “She has excellent expertise and the best contacts in the literary world and in the publishing and media industry,” says Martin Buhl-Wagner, Managing Director of the Leipziger Messe. Under Böhmisch, the fair will now “further develop strategically and in terms of content and maintain its position as an outstanding, international event Strengthen cultural event.” Zille saw the focus primarily on the cultural event and less on marketing.
The next Leipzig Book Fair will take place from March 21 to 24, 2024.
