Markos Seferlis Faces Backlash Over Controversial Sketch in Anniversary Show at Delfinario

by time news

The anniversary performance of Markos Seferlis for the “20 years Delfinario,” which premiered a few days ago, has divided the audience with the comedian’s sketches.

Part of the show includes Markos Seferlis dressing up as Nemo, the non-binary person who won at Eurovision 2024. After the premiere, excerpts from Markos Seferlis’ act began to circulate on social media, and many targeted him for mocking the singer.

Following the backlash, Markos Seferlis wanted to respond publicly about his show, posting a video on his personal Instagram account that included the opinion of psychiatrist Dimitris Souras:

More specifically, Markos Seferlis said: “This video is directed at all those who once again use my name to get attention, to sell a book or whatever. The only thing they manage to do is to advertise me, which I don’t need, but I thank them very much for that.

In the video, you will see what psychiatrist Dimitris Souras said at the end of my performance about the non-binary issue, not me. If you want to hear what I say and how I say it, you can come to see my show and then judge me. What’s significant in the video, however, is the spontaneous reaction of the audience and the comments on Mr. Souras’s statements. And finally, all of you, respect the opinions of other people.

Do not expect everyone to respect your opinion. This is called bullying, just so you know. And finally, understand the difference between mockery and satire. But what am I saying now, these are minor details. Kisses,” the comedian added.

Reactions on social media

After the videos circulated from his sketch, it was written on Twitter – X that the comedian did not only satirize Nemo but generally people who identify as non-binary.

One of the messages against him said: “When Seferlis fills theaters by mocking, don’t be surprised about incidents of violence. Don’t be surprised about homophobia. Don’t be surprised about the joke regarding the ‘faggot.’ About the ‘figs.’ About the ‘sister’ out there. We deserve our miserable fate.”

Another person insisted that “what he is doing is ridiculing gender identity and sexual orientation“.
