Markus Söder has now shared a photo of himself as a young man. The CSU politician received many compliments for it.

In 1983, Markus Söder, today’s Prime Minister of the Free State of Bavaria and party leader of the CSU, started his political career by becoming a member of the CSU and the Junge Union. On Instagram, the now 57-year-old remembered the beginnings of his career – and also shared an old photo of himself.

The photo shows the young Markus Söder. With one hand he is giving a thumbs up, with the other he is pointing to a poster behind him. It shows Franz Josef Strauß, the former Prime Minister of Bavaria. “Today would be Franz Josef Strauß’s 109th birthday. His motto ‘Bavaria is my homeland, Germany my fatherland, Europe my future’ has stayed with me to this day,” wrote Söder. Strauß will never be forgotten as a “political visionary and father of modern Bavaria.”

Markus Söder reveals that the politician, who died in 1988, played a major role in his own political career. “He made Bavaria strong and was the reason why I joined the CSU. PS: This poster of him hung above my bed at the time.”

Numerous compliments quickly piled up in the comments section. “Handsome guy at a young age,” wrote one follower. “Such a handsome young man,” reads another comment. Other comments include: “Very good-looking,” “The most handsome Prime Minister,” and “Söder really was a hottie back then.”

In addition, some fans apparently recognized Markus Söder’s Hollywood potential: One person said he saw a certain resemblance to Elvis Presley – another person thought: “He does have a certain resemblance to the young Tom Hanks.”
