The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) has launched a night monitoring program focused on caimans and crocodiles, as part of its National Conservation Program. This initiative seeks to obtain crucial information for the protection and management of these species in their natural habitats.

According to MARN, teams of park rangers and specialized technicians go into previously identified areas to maximize the chances of seeing alligators and crocodiles. During these night excursions, the areas occupied by these reptiles are recorded and detailed control of the existing population is kept.

Night monitoring is essential to better understand the behaviour and distribution of these reptiles. According to the ministry, “these reptiles play a fundamental role in the ecological balance and in understanding environmental changes. The more information we have about them, the better we can protect them, while also ensuring the well-being of ecosystems and local communities.”
