Eight-time motorcycle world champion Marc Marquez will miss the second round of the MotoGP season after having surgery on his hand.
The Spanish Honda rider underwent surgery in Madrid and will not be part of the field in Argentina on Sunday, his team have said. Marquez missed the braking point in Portimao and then collided with Miguel Oliveira. The 30-year-old received a penalty from race control for his driving error.
Oliveira suffered no fractures according to the first examinations. Ducati factory pilot Enea Bastianini suffered a broken shoulder blade on Saturday. The German Moto2 rider Lukas Tulovic also did not compete in the race in the Algarve due to a hand injury. He will also be absent in Argentina. (dpa)
