Marrakech African Book Festival: More than 10,000 people at the 2nd edition (organizers)

The 2024 edition of this event, organized by the association “We Art of Africa”, saw the participation of more than 50 authors from around twenty countries on three continents, the organizers said in a press release, stressing that this edition has expanded to new linguistic horizons by inviting, beyond authors of Arabic, French and English languages, writers of Portuguese, Creole and Mahorese languages.

Over four days, this edition saw the organization of 22 literary meetings, indicates the same source, specifying that two highlights punctuated this edition, namely the inaugural lesson given by the Senegalese philosopher Souleymane Bachir Diagne and “The great interview” with “the immense philosopher and witness of two centuries” Edgar Morin.

Among the new features of this edition, it is added, the meetings around the Moroccan literary scene which were the occasion to take an overview of Moroccan literary news.

This year, FLAM has strengthened its initiatives towards young people by organizing master classes, writing workshops and literary breakfasts in more than twenty schools and universities, in which more than 3,000 students participated, notes the press release.

Founded by writer and visual artist Mahi Binebine, journalist Fatimata Sagna, academic Hanan Essaydi and cultural entrepreneur Younès Ajarrai, FLAM celebrates African literature and culture and aims to bring culture and art closer to citizens by offering audiences of all ages free access to its activities.
