This event, organized on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the Glorious Green March and the Independence Day, was marked by the presentation by the musical troupe of the association, led by Ahmed El Gnawi, of a range of poems with a national patriotic vocation, as well as extracts from the secular art of melhoune.

In a statement to MAP, the president of the Association of the Seven Apostles for the Art of Melhoune and Moroccan Heritage, Khalid Ould Rami, indicated that since its creation in 2007, the association has organized a series of activities aimed at promoting Melhoune, this Moroccan intangible heritage recognized by UNESCO, and also works on the publication of poetry collections, notably by Marrakech poets.

And to add that the activities programmed by the association throughout the year are likely to make known the great masters of Melhoune, the artists, musicians and singers, as well as the poets of this ancestral art, notably through the organization of seminars and artistic and cultural meetings in Marrakech, but also at the level of several cities notably in Meknes, Rabat, Zerhoun and Taroudant.

The Association, Mr. Ould Rami continues, also works through its activities to make this musical genre known to young people and adolescents, from all social backgrounds, to explore talents and promising voices and to develop their artistic performances. The aim is to prepare the standard-bearers of this art in the future.

For his part, the director of the Social Complex Maison de l’Enfant, Bab Ghmat, in Marrakech, Aziz Addi, noted that the Complex, which is celebrating its 88th anniversary this year, organizes, in parallel with educational or training activities, artistic activities and initiatives for the benefit of civil society associations in Marrakech.

“The artistic evening organized today within this establishment constitutes an opportunity to introduce young people to the art of Melhoune and to allow them to open up to this Moroccan heritage which requires more attention with a view to its preservation,” he said in conclusion.
