In a statement to MAP, Mr. Knidri, also director of FNAP, explained that the performances presented as part of this major artistic event, which aims to be an immersion in the magical world of Moroccan intangible heritage, sparked remarkable interaction between the participating artists and the public, all ages combined, especially young people, among the inhabitants and visitors of the ocher city.
In this context, he stressed that one of the main missions of this event is to bring these age-old arts closer to young people, while making them aware of the importance of transmitting and preserving this ancestral folklore.
And to continue that this 53rd edition is intended to be a “new beginning” of the FNAP after the Covid-19 pandemic, with a return to the tradition of the “Night of the Stars”, through which the festival management ensures to pay tribute to one of the figures of Arabic song, knowing that the choice was made this year on the artist, lyricist, composer and singer Nouaman Lahlou.
The novelty of this edition lies in the new program of “thematic evenings”, which gives a special touch to the activities of the festival, through the important themes addressed, such as the celebration of the friendly relations between Morocco and China, and the highlighting of the close links between popular arts, folklore, music and modern song, he added.
Referring to the opening of the festival to the popular arts of other countries, Mr. Knidri noted that the choice of China as guest of honor this year is part of the implementation of cultural and artistic diplomacy, thanks to the distinguished relations existing between the two countries, further strengthened with the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to this Asian country in 2016.
In this wake, he said that the participation of three Chinese troupes in this edition is part of the approach adopted by the festival, which is based on the opening of Moroccan folklore to other foreign artistic expressions, in consecration of the values of dialogue between cultures and the arts.
The invitation of foreign troupes throughout the editions of the festival tends to raise awareness among Moroccan artists about the importance of this artistic and cultural heritage of which they are the main actors, continued the director of the FNAP, insisting on the need to preserve this precious legacy.
The diversity that the festival experiences in terms of participation of local, national and foreign troupes offers the opportunity to the Moroccan public and foreign visitors to discover and admire the folklore of other countries and the popular arts of the different regions of the Kingdom, which illustrate the richness and authenticity of the Moroccan intangible heritage.
Knidri concluded by highlighting the festival’s significant contribution to the economic dynamics of the ochre city and to the influence of the Kingdom’s leading tourist destination.
The result of a partnership between the Grand Atlas Association and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and benefiting from the support of the prefecture of the Marrakech-Safi region, the Regional Council, the Municipal Council and the municipality of Mechouar-Kasbah, this cultural event, placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, constitutes a joyful occasion to celebrate an integral part of the national identity, both multiple and unified.
Initiated under the theme “Eternal Rhythms and Symbols”, this 53rd edition of the FNAP brings together for the occasion hundreds of artists from more than 30 Moroccan folk troupes as well as numerous international troupes from China, Indonesia and Burkina Faso.
