Marrakech: Improving the living conditions of people with specific needs, a priority of the INDH

With a long experience, with remarkable and salutary results to its credit, the INDH continues, thanks to its philosophy, its approach advocating listening and proximity to citizens and their expectations, its rational approach, and its pragmatic methodology, to provide appropriate solutions to a number of social problems, allowing target people in particular, those in precarious and vulnerable situations or those with disabilities to now enjoy a dignified life.

Behind this observation, the Initiative’s constant commitment to further promote the values ​​of solidarity, mutual aid and empathy towards people from disadvantaged backgrounds or in difficult situations. Fundamental principles that have been firmly anchored in Moroccan society for centuries already.

To achieve this, this large-scale Royal project has invested at the national level as well as at the level of the prefecture of Marrakech, in the development and implementation of a series of ultramodern structures, with as a basis the guarantee of a series of quality service benefits for the benefit of target people, in this case those with specific needs among children suffering from disabilities.

This social category has the particularity of needing, on a permanent basis, regular monitoring and support by experts and specialists, capable of enabling them to overcome their handicaps and thereby lead a normal lifestyle.

Among these beneficial projects is the Center dedicated to people with specific needs set up within the “Pôle Citoyen” in the M’hamid district in the ochre city, which aims to be a model structure in terms of support and monitoring of this section of society.

This project, perfectly integrated into its environment, is designed to offer beneficiaries a series of quality services, with particular emphasis on ensuring its efficient and sustainable management.

Benefiting some 150 people annually, this space offers its beneficiaries a varied range of services, including special education sessions, school integration, paramedical services, psychological support and guidance, training, supervision and awareness, artistic and sporting activities, in addition to the organization of learning workshops in the fields of cooking and baking, ceramics and pottery, and painting.

Registered within the framework of INDH program 2: “Support for people in precarious situations”, this Center has developed a rich and varied animation and awareness program, capable of allowing target people to benefit from this structure set up in their favor.

This structure benefits from exemplary mobilization on the part of its managers. The aim is to guarantee all the optimal conditions in terms of reception, monitoring and support.

Placed under the supervision and management of the regional coordination of the National Mutual Aid, in partnership with the municipality of Marrakech and civil society, this project required the mobilization of a budget of around 9.35 million DH, including 1.35 million DH as a contribution from the Initiative and 8 million DH to be paid by the Habitat Solidarity Fund.

Arranged on two floors in a modern architectural style, this Center includes several outbuildings including a physiotherapy room, a support and speech therapy room, a room dedicated to psychomotor skills, a classroom, a refreshment bar, a meeting and training room, a conference room, an indoor swimming pool, cooking, pottery and ceramics, plastic arts, and music workshops, in addition to administrative outbuildings.

Speaking to M24, the 24-hour news channel of MAP, Said Arif, director of the Center dedicated to people with specific needs in Mhamid, indicated that this structure welcomes children suffering from different types of mental disabilities, stating that the services offered by this Center concern psychomotor skills, speech therapy, physiotherapy, in addition to sessions in special education and art and sports therapies.

This center, which welcomes children with special needs, is part of the projects that were launched thanks to the INDH in partnership with the National Aid, he recalled, expressing his thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the High Solicitude with which the Sovereign continues to surround this social category.
