Marrakech: President of the Andean Parliament welcomes Morocco’s progress in the field of renewable energies

Ms. Hidalgo thus described the Moroccan model as a “pioneer” in this strategic field, at the regional level, shedding light on the various significant investments made by the Kingdom in the field of solar and wind energy, particularly the “Noor Midelt II” Project.

The President of the Andean Parliament recalled, in this sense, that Morocco has allocated 300,000 hectares for the development of green hydrogen projects, while working to attract investments and support SMEs operating in the energy sector, affirming, to this end, that the Kingdom contributes to the productivity of the Mediterranean region in this area.

She also stressed the need to reduce the carbon footprint to address the impacts of global warming, explaining that this constitutes “a major step towards the energy transition”.

For his part, the vice president of the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico (FOPREL) and president of the National Congress of Honduras, Luis Redondo, called for support for policies aimed at strengthening energy efficiency, reducing emissions and protecting ecosystems.

After highlighting the importance of innovation and cooperation in the success of the energy transition, Mr. Redondo affirmed that climate change is more than ever “an indisputable reality.”

Organized by the Chamber of Advisors and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (APM), under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, whose constitutive session took place in December 2022 in the Ochre City, represents an ideal opportunity for parliamentarians and founding partners of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean to interact with political and economic actors from the public and private sectors, as well as with academia and civil society.

This second edition, whose work will continue on Friday, covers two main themes, namely “The transition to green energy” and “Support for entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises in this process”.
