Marrakech: Tanker trucks, a vital solution for the supply of drinking water to the commune of Saada

by times news cr

Operational on a daily basis, the tanker truck system has ensured regular access to drinking water in the areas most affected by the lack of this vital resource. Each truck, loaded with water from communal reservoirs, travels long distances to serve remote or difficult-to-access douars.

The quantities of water supplied vary according to the specific needs of each douar, taking into account the number of households and local climatic conditions.

For Abderrahmane Tourbi, a technician in the municipality of Saada, the water supply system by tanker trucks, set up in accordance with the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in terms of management and preservation of water resources, targets 13 douars of the municipality with more than 1,045 beneficiary households.

In a statement to MAP, Mr. Tourbi noted that the quantity of water delivered is adapted to the needs of each douar, taking into account seasonal variations and local specificities. The tankers are equipped in such a way as to guarantee the quality of the water transported, he assured, noting that regular checks are carried out to ensure compliance with the health standards in force.

The logistical management of this system, he continued, remains crucial to effectively respond to the needs of the population, especially since teams regularly monitor the available water levels and the needs of the beneficiary douars.

“This continuous monitoring,” he assured, “allows us to adjust the quantities of water delivered and to plan truck routes optimally.”

He added that coordination with local authorities and representatives of the douars is essential to ensure equitable distribution of water and that feedback from residents is taken into account to continually improve the service.

“Our goal is to ensure that every family has access to sufficient clean water, regardless of conditions,” he said.

In this context, Mr. Tourbi stressed the importance for all citizens of ensuring the rationalization of water consumption and encouraged the stakeholders concerned to fight against any form of illicit use of this vital resource.

For his part, Mohammed Akebli, a resident of a douar in the Commune of Saada, said that thanks to the water distribution tankers, residents have regular access to drinking water even in the midst of drought. “This has greatly eased our daily lives, by ensuring constant access to drinking water. This service has become essential for our community,” he said.

This initiative is fully in line with the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI to address water stress. It illustrates the desire of local authorities to implement concrete and sustainable solutions to preserve water resources and improve the well-being of populations, in accordance with the High Royal Directives aimed at securing access to water for all.

To respond to the challenges related to the water issue, in accordance with the Royal Vision, a series of strategic projects was launched within the framework of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) for an execution period ranging from 2020 to 2027 and an initial cost of 115 billion dirhams.

The program involved in particular the acquisition of 1,209 tanker trucks and 9,717 plastic tankers and the mobilization of a significant budget for the rental of tanker trucks in order to ensure the supply of drinking water to a population of around 3 million inhabitants located in rural areas affected by water deficit.
