Komangalam is located near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. Weerakumar (age 20) from the same area. Has been working for hire. Weerakumar was engaged to be married to a 16-year-old girl from Puliyakulam, Coimbatore. The marriage took place on December 13 at a temple in Pollachi.
The Coimbatore District Child Protection Center was informed about this. Upon this information the child protection officers rushed in and interrogated the girl.
During the interrogation, Weerakumar allegedly raped the girl after she left home after completing 10th class in Coimbatore Municipal School and forced her after marriage. Following this, the Child Protection Center officials lodged a complaint at the Pollachi All Women Police Station.
Subsequently, on the basis of the complaint, the police filed a case against Weerakumar under the Pokcho Act and arrested him. Similarly, Weerakumar’s parents filed a case against the girl’s parents under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. Following that, they were also arrested by the police.
