The blaze, which erupted on the ground floor of a building on Boulevard de Strasbourg, was swiftly contained by approximately fifty firefighters, preventing further escalation.
Rapid Response Prevents Wider Damage
The Marseille Fire Brigade responded to the incident at 7:40 a.m. local time at 37 boulevard de Strasbourg in the city’s 3rd arrondissement. Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the upper floors of the three-story building. Crews secured the premises, conducted thorough reconnaissance of the apartments, and attended to residents affected by smoke inhalation.
“Thanks to the rapid and coordinated intervention of the teams on site, the fire was quickly brought under control,” officials stated.
Victims Receive Urgent Medical Attention
Emergency services treated a total of nine victims at the scene. A woman, estimated to be around 30 years old, sustained severe third-degree burns and was transported to a hospital in absolute emergency, with her vital prognosis currently in jeopardy. A man, approximately 60 years old, was also hospitalized after experiencing chest pain, though his condition is not believed to be life-threatening. He was evacuated via non-medical transport.
The cause of the scooter fire remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the scooter’s ownership or potential contributing factors.
