The city of Marshall will open a warming station Saturday through Tuesday to provide shelter for residents in need amid inclement winter weather expected to move into the area late Friday.

The Smith Community Center, 700 Spring St., will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily those days.

The center will “provide temporary shelter from the extreme winter weather forecast for the northeast Texas area,” the city said in a statement. “It will serve the homeless, stranded travelers and vulnerable residents.”

Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-20s late Friday along with the arrival of freezing rain. Temperatures will remain in the 20s and even lower teens through Sunday along with a mix of freezing rain and snow.
