Marshall Willen – Marshall Willen – Gamereactor

by time news

The Marshall brand was licensed to Swedish Zound Industries over 10 years ago when they were best known as the Urbanears brand which I still think is a great value for money. Thankfully, they’re still alive, and their latest in-ear headphones are fairly sustainably sourced and made from 97 percent recycled plastic.

They have brought this to their Marshall brand products, Willen are made from PVC free 60% recycled plastic, no they are not made in the same factory as Marshall guitar amps, each pair of Gibson or Fender Tasteful teenage boys know and love it. On the other hand, they make really solid bluetooth speakers in all sizes.

The newest and smallest addition is this Willen, which is a small square with a 2″ full range driver powered by a 10 watt class D amp module, and two passives of unknown size, and you get 15 Hours of battery life and IP67 certification for around £90. In the past, I used to throw products in a basin of water for testing, so we did that here too. It offers better bass response to say the least, but the IP67 only covers 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and fresh water for 30 minutes. Unfortunately, it sinks like a rock, so you may need to keep that in mind before taking it to the canoe. On the other hand, there’s a built-in microphone, so you can actually use it as a small conference speaker.

There’s a solid strap on the back, a battery indicator, a small control wheel, and a central Bluetooth button. You can get it in full two colors, black and copper, or cream and light gray.

It’s super easy to use and can be squeezed a little to fit into a large pocket. It comes with a small app with different presets – we tested it with “Marshall Signature Sound” and you can combine two of them for true stereo sound.

The frequency response is set to 100-20KHz, but actually I think it’s less. It gives a pretty decent scale from 8-9 meters away, but not a lot of bass and you can forget about the depth of the soundstage, piano overtones or anything like that, because you can almost only hear the sound, and almost only hear. A walk on the beach might also be fine, but traditional HI-FI quality can give a lot of points when the basics like mid-range aren’t there at all.

There are limits to how small you can make things, and this is especially evident on Willen. On the other hand, it’s super portable, which is probably the main reason why most people buy it, and worst of all, the price is pretty high, but that’s the case with almost all of these kinds of products these days, which annoys me.
