“Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Surpasses $100 Million at Global Box Office”

Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” has reached a significant milestone, crossing the $100 million mark at the global box office. The epic western crime saga, produced by Apple, Paramount, and Imperative Entertainment, has earned a total of $102.1 million worldwide, with $45.3 million coming from domestic box office sales and $56.8 million from international markets.

“Killers of the Flower Moon,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before receiving a worldwide theatrical release in late October. Despite its long running time and the inability for the actors to promote the film due to the ongoing actors strike, it had a strong start overseas, defying expectations for a period movie.

The film’s performance has remained robust since its release. In its second weekend, it experienced a relatively low 36% drop in holdovers internationally, indicating strong audience interest and positive word-of-mouth.

The top overseas markets for “Killers of the Flower Moon” include the UK with $8 million, France with $7 million, Germany with $4.5 million, Italy with $4.1 million (handled by Leone), Spain with $3.5 million, Australia with $3 million, Netherlands with $1.8 million, Mexico with $1.8 million, Brazil with $1.5 million, and the UAE with $900,000.

With no major blockbuster releases until Disney/Marvel’s “The Marvels” starts its rollout on November 8, there is still plenty of space in the marketplace for “Killers of the Flower Moon” to continue its successful run. However, the film’s streaming release on Apple has not yet been announced, and potential awards buzz could impact its distribution strategy.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on a true story, centering around the unlikely romance of Ernest Burkhart (played by DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Gladstone). The film follows the suspicious murders of members of the Osage Nation, who suddenly became incredibly wealthy after oil was discovered beneath their land.

As the film continues to captivate audiences around the world, it is expected to surpass even greater box office milestones and receive recognition during awards season.
