Maruti Suzuki has launched its new Fronx Baleno-based SUV coupe at the Auto Expo 2023. Bookings for the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx model have already started and sales are expected to start by April. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx model will be launched under Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa branding.

The Fronx is the first compact SUV coupe model to debut under the Nexa branding. Based on the Baleno, the car uses the Hartec Monoc platform. Apart from some body panels, the car shares the same features as the Grand Vitara including the upright nose and split headlamp setup.

The front and rear bumpers are slightly stiffer. There are special faux skid plates on both sides. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels with a new rear design. Some of the features of the new Fronx model are already offered in the Baleno hatchback model. As far as measurements are concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx measures 3995mm in length, 1550mm in height and 1765mm in width.

The interior of the car also carries most of the same features as the Baleno model. This includes the dashboard, seat and accessories. Both models seem to have different textures and some differences.

Maruti Suzuki’s first and only turbo petrol engine – the 1.0-litre Boosterjet unit was offered in the previous generation Baleno model that debuted in 2017. This engine was introduced as a sporty alternative to the standard units. It is offered only on the top-end Baleno RS model. The engine was recalled due to low sales and tougher smog regulations.

The turbo unit is now back in the Fronx model. It churns out 100 HP of power and 147.6 Nm of torque. It is offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Along with this, the 1.2 liter K series NA petrol engine is offered. This engine churns out 90 HP of power and 113 Nm of torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual, AMT transmission.

The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx model will go on sale in the Indian market by April. The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx will compete with the likes of the Citroen C3, Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Gigar.
