The member of the Democratic Party faction supports the plan to implement this policy as long as it takes into account the support of the community.

For example, the increase in VAT to 12 percent is not imposed on basic public goods including nine basic commodities (groceries), educational services, medical health services and social services.

“We reject the VAT imposition targeting basic necessities that are really needed by the community,” said Marwan in a press release, Monday (23/12/2024).

According to Marwan, the 12 percent VAT increase is a decision of the 2021 Law (UU) concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations (HPP) which was agreed upon at the DPR RI Plenary Meeting on October 7 2021.

The DPR RI Democratic Party faction will continue to oversee the economic stimulus scheme prepared by the government so that it can run well so that people’s purchasing power does not weaken and the economy does not move.

“The government has designed a stimulus package that ensures that society remains protected and the economy continues to move forward. We will monitor this incentive so that people’s purchasing power remains maintained, MSMEs continue to develop, and labor-intensive industries become stronger,” said Marwan.

He admitted that increasing VAT to 12 percent was one of the government’s concrete steps to improve state finances and increase state revenue.
