This exhibition, drawing on works from the collection, aims to shed new light on the work of the 17th-century English painter Mary Beale (1633-1699).
Considered a pioneer in the genre of portraiture with innovative techniques, Beale was also a writer. In 1963 she published her Observationsan essay that is considered the first artist’s writing in Great Britain.
