Roscommon Community Mourns the Loss of Mary Hughes

A beloved member of the Roscommon community, Mary Hughes, passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2025, following a short illness. Her passing leaves a meaningful void in the lives of her family, friends, and neighbors in Castleplunkett and the surrounding areas.
Mary, formerly of carrowcrin, Kilrooskey, is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents,May & Harry Hughes.
A Life Richly Lived
Mary’s life was defined by her strong family connections and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her years. She is survived by her husband, Louis, and her children: Kevin, Deirdre, Gráinne, and Mark.Her legacy extends to her daughters-in-law, Keeva and Rebecca, sons-in-law Evan and Seán Óg, and her cherished grandchildren: Abi, Aidan, Evan, Erin, Cora, Cillian, and hailey.
She is also deeply missed by her sisters, Margaret (Carrowcrin) and Helen (Lecarrow), her brothers Michael (Kilteevan) and Henry (Carrowcrin), and her uncle phonsie O’Connor (Boyle), along with a wide circle of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Arrangements and Remembrance
Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects at Flanagan’s Funeral home, Castleplunkett, on Thursday evening, December 4th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea.
