The original voice cast of the Mass Effect trilogy released a video on November 7, 2026, to urge fans to help save the franchise after Electronic Arts (EA) closed developer BioWare, according to Kotaku. The Save Mass Effect
campaign used the traditional series celebration day to mobilize performers and fans against the studio’s closure.
Electronic Arts (EA) shut down the Edmonton-based studio on October 21, following EA’s acquisition by a consortium of private equity holders, including Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners and the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. This closure cancelled Mass Effect 5 and placed the gaming side of the franchise on an indefinite hold.
Billboards and Petitions Signal Growing Fan Support
The campaign has moved from social media to physical demonstrations. After launching a #SaveMassEffect billboard in New York’s Times Square, the movement deployed mobile billboard trucks in California, Wales, Texas, and Edmonton. In North Texas, community members erected billboards in the Dallas and Frisco areas. Activists also targeted EA’s Redwood headquarters with billboard trucks and tagged offices in Madrid.

Support for the franchise’s survival is growing through several channels:
- A Change.org petition has garnered more than 310,000 signatures.
- A Canadian government petition has been launched, requesting that the government help the former Edmonton-based studio “resume business as an independent, Canadian company.”
- Activists are encouraging fans to maintain a high count of simultaneous players on the original game to make a stronger case for the series.
Politicians and Industry Figures Back the Movement
Newly elected New Democratic Party leader Avi Lewis expressed frustration with private equity and EA, suggesting that the federal government should intervene to protect Canadian businesses. Member of Parliament Don Davies also boosted support for the petition.

The gaming industry has also responded. Owlcat Games released a video reminiscing on the series, and Five Nights At Freddy’s performer Kellen Goff shared thoughts on the importance of the movement.
Recent leaks regarding the canceled project, referred to as Mass Effect Universe, have increased the urgency of the campaign. Details surfaced since the studio’s closure revealing the title was set 600 years after the Reaper War and featured a new protagonist—an ex-soldier turned Normandy crew member—and the return of the character Liara.

Composer Sam Hulick joined the cast in a statement to emphasize the human cost of the studio’s closure.
The hardworking people who made Mass Effect deserve to see their vision through,
says Mass Effect composer Sam Hulick, joined by much of the game’s cast in a video statement. I’m not ready to see the story end either.
