Five large forest fires are raging in Los Angeles County, covering a total area of 11.7 thousand hectares.
As Day.Az reports, evacuation orders apply to areas with a population of about 180 thousand people, another 200 thousand residents are in the warning zone about possible evacuation.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna urged residents under evacuation orders to leave their homes immediately. According to him, since the start of the fires, law enforcement agencies have detained about 20 looters, but the number of arrests may increase.
Despite the difficult situation, progress was made in the fight against fire in the Hollywood Hills area. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said overnight air operations had lifted evacuation orders in Hollywood and Studio City.
The fires caused enormous damage: more than 1 thousand buildings were destroyed, including in prestigious areas where celebrities live. Among the victims were the homes of Hunter Biden and Paris Hilton. Also, about 95 thousand residents remain without electricity supply.
Wind and low humidity are complicating the work of firefighters, who have requested assistance from colleagues in neighboring counties and states. The situation remains critical and adverse weather conditions are forecast to continue until Friday.
