Mass protests begin in Burkina Faso, French military convoy blocked

by time news

In Burkina Faso, dozens of demonstrators were injured in breaking up an anti-government rally in the capital. Police fired tear gas and opened fire into the air after protesters erected barricades, set fire to tires and looted several government offices. The participants protested against the country’s leadership led by Roc Marc Christian Caboret and France, which actively supports the current government.

The protesters accused the government of failing to provide security in the region and protect against Islamist attacks. The reason for the start of the protests was the terrorist attack in the province of Sum, in which, according to the latest data, forty-nine servicemen and four civilians were killed.

Similar protests against the French and the government in neighboring Niger ended in bloodshed. During the dispersal of the protesters, who for a week blocked the passage of the convoy of the French Armed Forces in Burkina Faso, the Armed Forces of the country (according to other sources, the French) opened fire and killed two people, another sixteen were injured. There, protesters accused the foreign military of supplying weapons to the jihadists who terrorize Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Against the background of the reduction of the military mission of Paris in Africa, anti-French sentiments in the Sahel region are only intensifying.

The French military convoy was blocked by local residents almost immediately after crossing the border from Burkina Faso.

The military opened fire on people. Two people were killed, up to 10 people were injured.

Dissatisfaction with the French military presence in the Sahel is growing every day.
