Mass Shooting at Biker Bar in California Leaves Three Dead and Six Injured
At least three people were killed and six others were injured in a mass shooting at a biker bar in Orange County, California, on Wednesday night, authorities said. The incident occurred at Cook’s Corner, a bar and restaurant located in the small community of Trabuco Canyon, about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
According to Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy, of the six victims taken to a local trauma center, five suffered gunshot wounds. Two of the patients were in critical condition, while the other four were in stable condition.
The shooter, believed to be a retired law enforcement officer, was killed on the scene, according to Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock. The authorities received 911 calls at around 7:04 p.m. reporting shots fired at Cook’s Corner. Deputies arrived at the scene two minutes later and confronted the armed suspect, leading to a deputy-involved shooting.
“It’s an absolute tragic event and something that I know is probably weighing very heavy on the entire Trabuco Canyon community. Cook’s Corner, it’s a staple here,” expressed Hallock.
Authorities have recovered at least one weapon at the scene, shedding light on the gravity of the situation. This incident adds to the growing number of mass shootings in the United States. According to the nonprofit group Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 465 mass shootings in the country so far this year. The organization defines a mass shooting as one in which at least four people, not including the shooter, are shot.
Additionally, the US has already surpassed 400 mass shootings in July, marking the earliest such number recorded since 2013, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
