Massacre in a village in Ethiopia, women and children killed

Time.news – A new massacre of civilians in the Tigray region was unveiled by witnesses and was revealed about three weeks later by the British newspaper Guardian.

These are 19 people killed by Eritrean soldiers in a village known for its 5th-century rock-hewn church, Abuna Yemata. Most of the victims, according to reports from relatives and neighbors, were women and children.

The one reported in the newspaper is just the latest in a series of atrocities reported since, last November, the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmend, Nobel Peace Prize 2019, launched an offensive to “restore the rule of law” after an attack by the Tigray Peoplès Liberation Front on an army base.

Despite international appeals, Eritrean troops are fighting allied with Ethiopian government forces in Tigré. NGOs and international institutions have raised the alarm for a humanitarian catastrophe already underway.
