On the night of Sunday, August 25, the community of Puerto Rico, a municipality located in the northwest of the department of Caquetá, was shaken by a violent and tragic event.
Five people were killed in a brutal attack in a rural area known to be an area of influence of one of the dissident groups of the extinct FARC guerrilla group.
The victims, identified as three Colombian citizens and two Venezuelans, were allegedly carrying out illegal mining activities in the region. According to local sources, The bodies were found with multiple bullet wounds.apparently from a rifle, suggesting that the attack was premeditated and executed with a high level of violence.

The tragedy in Puerto Rico adds to the long list of massacres that have shaken Colombia so far this year, the latest being the 44th in the rural area of the municipality of Remedios, in Antioquia.
