Massimo Cavezzali has died at the age of 73

The cartoonist Massimo Cavezzali, aka “Cavez”, author of many amusing comic biographies of musicians, starting with that of Vasco Rossi, as well as dazzling cartoons and characters such as the sexy duck Ava or Kika the cat girl, has died Wednesday 10 May at the age of 73. The news of the disappearance was spread via social media.

Born in Ravenna on 11 February 1950 and Florentine by adoption, Cavezzali made his debut in the 1970s in the comics magazine “Il Mago”. He later collaborated with the newspapers “L’Unità”, “Paese Sera”, “La Repubblica” (for the insert “Musica”, for which he created caricature-portraits of famous singers), with “Tuttolibri” (l literary insert of the newspaper “La Stampa”), the weeklies “Dolly”, “Il Monello”, “Tango” (satirical supplement of “Unità”) and the magazines “Comix”, “Lupo Alberto”, “Il Grifo”

Furthermore, together with other young authors of the time, between the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s he published his comics in specialized magazines such as “Hey Rock” (publisher Rabbit) in which the strips of the same name are published, “Animal Comic” and “Lonely Hearts” (Acme publisher).

Cavezzali, among other things, was the creator of Ava, a duck with sex appeal, born as a playful homage to Carl Barks. The name of the anthropomorphic duck, sexy and uninhibited in pursuit of success and love, is due to the journalist Vincenzo Mollica. His other famous strips were those dedicated to God and to the little man with the big nose, no forehead and eyes wide open on the world to spread pearls of wisdom with sarcasm and irony.

He has published many books that collect his cartoons and his comic stories, including “Piglia e Dalla in concerto” and “Padre figli e Spirito tanto”. Cavezzali dabbled in music, a passion reflected in many cartoons and stories on the subject. For the Coniglio publisher he has published “Ogni volta che sono Vasco”, a monographic volume that tells an ironic version of the biography of the famous rock singer Vasco Rossi.
