Dubai: A huge narcotics hunt in the port of Sydney in Australia with the cooperation of Dubai Customs. Two tons of methamphetamine was seized. This is the biggest drug bust in Australia since 2019.

Ahmed Mahbub Musabih, CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zones Corporation (PCFC) and Director General of Dubai Customs, said the shipments were being tracked and analyzed through intelligence and this information was immediately passed on to Australian authorities.

In August this year, Australian authorities arrested a team in connection with the discovery of 748 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in 24 containers that arrived at a berth in Port Botany, said Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director of intelligence at Dubai Customs. 1,060 kg of methamphetamine was also seized from 19 containers that arrived at the same port. Hailing the cooperation with Dubai Customs, Middle East and Africa Regional Director at the Australian Consulate General in Dubai, Colin Drysdale, commended the efforts of the UAE and Dubai Customs for being vigilant and working tirelessly to prevent smuggling.
A few days ago, the police foiled an attempt to smuggle 216 kilograms of drugs in Sharjah. Sharjah Police in cooperation with Abu Dhabi and Umm al-Khuwain Police stopped drug trafficking through an operation named ‘Precious Hunt’. Sharjah Police informed this on Thursday.
An Asian man was arrested in the incident. 170 kg of cannabis, 46 kg of crystal meth and 500,000 captagon pills were seized. The Director of Anti-Narcotics Department, Lt. Colonel Majid Al Azam said. Immediately, a special team was formed and detailed information was collected. With this, it was found that the main suspect in the incident had arrived in the country earlier.

The suspect was then closely observed. He added that the accused was caught red-handed in a raid conducted in a nearby emirate after this. The accused confessed that the seized drugs belonged to four drug gangs. He was handed over to the public prosecution. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
