Riyadh: The spokesman of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, Major Muhammad Al Nujaidi, announced that a large amount of narcotics was seized and delivered to a warehouse through the Riyadh Dry Port. Security personnel raided the godown and nabbed the smugglers. Among them are six Syrian citizens and two Pakistanis, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
A total of 4,69,16,480 amphetamine pills were smuggled into the country hidden inside imported flour. The arrest was made by Directorate officials in coordination with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. The accused were arrested and preliminary legal proceedings were taken against them before being referred to public prosecution.
Al Nujaidi said the seizure was the largest amount of drugs smuggled into the country in a single operation. He said that the security forces are keeping a close eye on drug smuggling aimed at the safety of the country and the youth. Drugs trying to smuggle into the country were caught as a result of strict surveillance. The smugglers were nabbed by raiding the godown where a large stock of drugs was kept after transporting them to the Riyadh Dry Port.
Al-Nujaidi said the security forces will continue their duties to pursue the activities of criminal networks that target the security of the country and its citizens with drugs. “The security authorities will thwart all such smuggling attempts and arrest all those involved in drug smuggling and ensure their due punishment,” he added.
