Kuwait City: A huge fire broke out in the Souk Mubarakiya market in Kuwait. The fire engulfed the area at 3.30 pm yesterday. Several people were injured in the incident, local media reported. Preliminary reports said some of the injuries were serious. At least 14 people were reported to have suffered burns or other injuries.

The fire broke out near the armory

The fire was brought under control by security personnel, including firefighters, immediately after the blaze broke out. Authorities said five firefighters arrived from around the city to put out the blaze. A video of the blaze was seen spreading in the area on social media. Preliminary conclusion is that the fire first spread near the arms depot in the market. But the cause of the fire is not clear.

Home Minister says fire is under control

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al Nawaf said the fire was under control and there was no need to worry. The major disaster was averted by the timely intervention of the fire brigade. Local media quoted Mubarak as saying that simultaneous firefighting operations in all parts of the market had helped prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the country. He visited the Mubarak market where the fire broke out and said no deaths or injuries were reported. But information about the injured came out later. No information was available, including the nationality of the injured. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Dr. Mohammed al-Faris, head of the General Fire Brigade, also accompanied the interior minister during the visit. The fire brigade said no one was allowed to enter the area where the fire broke out. Authorities also requested that no one enter the roads into the area unnecessarily to make way for emergency services.

The fire broke out a second time in a week

This is the second fire in Kuwait in a week. A fire at the second terminal of Kuwait International Airport last Monday caused extensive damage. The fire broke out near the construction site of the second terminal. The fire broke out in the basement, ground and first floor, but no casualties were reported. The fire was caused by construction materials piled up at terminal two where construction work was in progress. These were destroyed or rendered useless by the fire. Kuwaiti Public Works Minister Ali al-Mousa, who visited Terminal 2, said the incident would be investigated impartially and those responsible would be brought to justice.
