ISLAMABAD: Police have thrown tear gas and dispersed the crowd as violence in a rally led by former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan yesterday called for a grand rally in Pakistan to demand immediate general elections. He appealed to the public and party supporters to take part in it. The Pakistani prime minister, who refused to allow the rally, warned Imran Khan that he would be arrested if he took part in the rally.

Despite the ban on the rally, a large number of Imran Khan supporters gathered in Islamabad. Imran Khan arrived at the battlefield by helicopter. The police ordered that everyone be dispersed because the rally was not allowed. Protesters then hurled stones and bottles at police. Tensions were high in the area as tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd. Security forces chased away protesters with tear gas and batons.

Islamabad administration says 12 policemen have been injured in a scuffle between Imran Khan supporters. Condemning the attack on supporters, Imran Khan accused the police of infiltrating the peaceful rally and turning it into a hotbed of violence.
