The country will face an unstoppable massive rice shortage after October. Food waste should be avoided as much as possible. The government needs to change its agricultural policy quickly. Buddhi Marape, Senior Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, said the entire country would face serious challenges if small-scale cultivation failed.

He further stated that

Small scale agricultural activity requires 80,000 MT of urea and 10,000 MT of superphosphate. Only a small amount of compost is in the possession of private companies.

Most of the cultivation has fallen due to incorrect fertilizer policy. It is amusing that politicians today are keeping quiet, ignoring the advice and predictions of agricultural experts. We continue to insist that agricultural policy should be categorized as non-political.

As the country’s economy intensifies, there will be food shortages in the near future. The country will face massive rice shortages after October, so the general public should avoid wasting food as much as possible.

Fertilizer is essential for large-scale agriculture. At present, we cannot comment on large-scale agriculture.
