DEBRIEFING – “For 20 years, the police have been wondering if they should stop working”explains the former police officer and writer Marc La Mola in this interview. “There, they arrived at the edge of the abyss, they had no other means to be heard”he explains. “That’s what you have to see in this movement. It should not be reduced to the incarceration of the colleague even if it is central.” The cup was already quite full. The second pre-trial detention, in less than a month, of a police officer suspected of excessive use of force in the exercise of his duties, is the straw that made him overflow. More than a thousand police officers are on sick leave across the country, and the movement is spreading. In addition, following a call from the unions, an undetermined number of civil servants are on “code 562”, a form of work-to-rule where agents only take charge of cases of great urgency, when a situation suggests a danger imminent and serious. The police denounce a management that has led them to exhaustion and burn-out. This profession, where the suicide rate is breaking worrying records, has been trying to make its suffering and difficulties heard for years. In vain according to them. (Read more below…)

“I’m talking to you about working conditions, consideration of the police function, that’s what this movement embodies”says Marc La Mola. “Tomorrow will never be the same again”predicts the former police officer who receives a lot of confidences from his former colleagues.

Marc La Mola, whom we received on set last December, is notably the author, with police officer Laure Garcia, his companion currently on sick leave, of the book “I’m a cop and tonight I’m going to kill myself” at Ring editions.
