Director Rajeev Nath, who has read Karur’s famous story “Potichhor” many times, got a character to play on a trip that was rained out years ago. It was Sreedharan, the son of the main teacher in the story. Rajeev Nath has extrapolated from the reference in the letter of the headmaster who cut off the child’s package brain with remorse to the school manager, and the teenager named Sreedharan.
Rajeev Nath says – Later I felt like I was turning into Sreedharan. Through him the desire to reinterpret Potichor began. The wife, who is only referred to as a sick person in the story, has become unrecognizably angry because of her husband’s misbehavior. Sreedharan grew up as his father’s shadow, understanding his father’s dilemmas and sufferings. And so the movie Headmaster was born. This film is also a reminder that there was such a poor time. The director says that there are people who have to be hungry and worried to maintain the great status of the society.
Akash Raj, a 10th standard student at Kandamangalam High School, Cherthala, is the son of film lyricist Rajeev Alungal. When asked about coming to the cinema, Akash says that my father never asked anyone for me. It is said that those who believe in their own abilities will succeed. So a comedy video I made turned into a full-length character in a movie. Apart from Thambi Antony, Babu Antony, Jagadish, Manju Pillai, Prem Kumar, Sanju Shivram, Madhupal, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Devi (actress Jalaja’s daughter), Sethulakshmi and others shared the silver screen.
Babu Antony, who plays Sreedharan, is more in the movie. The story unfolds through the memories of Sreedharan, a top United Nations official and human rights activist. Sreedharan is the witness of all the sorrows of a poor father who had to commit suicide because of the sorrows of life. The Karur story of Potichor takes on a new face by recalling his teenage years, when he forgot to laugh, play and run around. “The support of the director and co-stars helped a lot to make Sreedharan stand out throughout the film.” Akash says.-
