MASTER LIVES: FOOTPRINT AND WITNESS OF WOMEN ARTISTS (17TH-20TH CENTURIES)

Coinciding with the exhibition Teacherscurated by Rocío de la Villa, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid has organized a film series directed by Ana Quiroga Álvarez, doctor in Audiovisual Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid.

This cycle pays tribute to those women who were part of the artistic historical story and, however, were left out of it. From its beginnings in the 19th century to its technical and aesthetic expansion in the 20th century, cinema has played a prominent role in the formation of collective consciousness and the social imagination. The program includes six titles around artists present in the exhibition, such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Rosa Bonheur, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Berthe Morisot and Frida Kahlo, in the form of biopicsdocumentaries or dramatized fiction.

All screenings are free (reservation required) and will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid at 7:30 p.m.

This film, which places the impressionist painter Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) in her creative context, presents a 25-year-old girl who struggles to reclaim her desire to be a painter and become an independent woman. The session connects with the seventh section of the exhibition, Sorority II.
