Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform on October 15, 2026, pairing its global network with BVNK’s stablecoin infrastructure just 73 days after acquiring the firm. The initiative enables stablecoin-linked card issuing in over 130 countries, connecting traditional banking rails with digital assets.
The $1.8 Billion Acquisition Behind Mastercard’s Global Money Platform
Mastercard moved swiftly to integrate its stablecoin infrastructure provider after agreeing to terms in March 2026 and completing the transaction on August 3.
Seventy-three days following the close of that deal, the Global Money Platform went live on October 15. Rather than operating as a tentative pilot program, the system provides production-grade infrastructure designed to convert digital currencies into operational cash.
Whether this substantial float can move cleanly in and out of traditional accounts determines its viability as trading collateral or a mainstream payment instrument.
How the Global Money Account Connects Fiat and Stablecoins
Raj Dhamodharan, executive vice president of Blockchain and Digital Assets at Mastercard, stated that the future of commerce relies on interoperability across various forms of money, combining Mastercard’s trusted reach with BVNK’s stablecoin capabilities to give businesses a unified foundation for cross-ecosystem value movement.
Today, we're launching Mastercard Global Money Platform with @BVNKFinance, enabling banks, fintechs, and enterprises to offer stablecoin payments, local bank payouts, spend stablecoin-linked cards, and multi-currency accounts through a single integration. Learn more:… pic.twitter.com/bx5x5Y4to6
Rather than manually transferring tokens to an exchange, swapping for fiat, and wiring funds through correspondent banks, companies can keep working capital in stablecoins and convert only when a transaction triggers. Early integrators preparing to embed the toolkit include payment processor Nuvei, card issuer Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech.
Card Issuing and Bank Payouts Across 130 Countries
The infrastructure spans two primary distribution channels.

Second, the system connects directly to Mastercard Move, which currently reaches over 17 billion endpoints. This integration allows stablecoin balances to convert and settle directly into local bank accounts.
Global Money Platform will become the single infrastructure layer not just for stablecoins, but for every form of money.

Expansion Targets and Regulatory Milestones for 2027
Projections indicate that bank payout coverage will expand significantly over the next year. Mastercard expects local currency payouts through its network to reach more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories in 2027.
The rollout also arrives amid shifting regulatory dynamics and competitive moves from rivals such as Visa. By establishing a compliant, pre-built framework, the network positions itself to support emerging requirements for tokenized deposits and autonomous AI-agent transactions.
