The 2023 Kitesurfing World Cup began this past weekend with the dispute of its first scoring event and excellent news for Club Nautico Sevilla. In fact, the victory in the event held on the island of Sal (Cape Verde) went to the representative of the Sevillian entity Matchu Lopes (Duotone kiteboarding / Ion / Quobba fins).

The current runner-up of the GKA (Global Kitesports Association) World Tour in the strapless mode (without restraints to the board) has won the first date on the calendar, considered the most important event in the wave discipline. To do this, the Cape Verdean by birth who became a Spanish national in 2018, who has defended the colors of Náutico Sevilla ever since, prevailed over local legend Mitu Monteiro in the grand final.

Previously, to reach the final round and qualify for the title, Matchu Lopes got rid of Brazilian Pedro Matos in the semifinals, third last season on the international circuit and who in the end was fourth in Sal after losing in the consolation final against Italian Airton Cozzolino.

The Náutico Sevilla rider, who was proclaimed world champion in 2016 and accumulates two subtitles (2017 and 2022) and a third place (2018), will face the next stage of the GKA World Tour at the beginning of August in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
