“Maternal and Fetal Health Care Initiative by Egyptian Ministry of Health Examines 1.9 Million Women for Early Detection of Diseases and Risk Factors under ‘100 Million Health’ Campaign”

The Ministry of Health and Population has stated that 1,930,000 women have been examined, as part of the President of the Republic’s initiative to “care for the health of the mother and fetus” under the slogan “100 million health” since its launch in March 2020.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, said that the initiative aims at early detection of diseases transmitted from the mother to the fetus, and the provision of free treatment and health care, as well as early detection of infection with the “B” virus, HIV, and syphilis for pregnant women. .

For his part, Dr. Fawzi Fathi, Executive Director of the initiative, said that the initiative follows up on the condition of the mother and newborn for a period of 42 days, after the end of pregnancy, to discover risk factors for the mother or the newborn, and to take appropriate measures, in addition to disbursing the necessary micronutrients during the postpartum period.

Dr. Fawzi Fathi added that the initiative guarantees confidentiality of analyzes and proper testing by selecting reagents of international quality. It also includes advice to prevent diseases, and requires approval and the woman’s acceptance of the service.

He stressed that the initiative is sustainable, within the services of health units and mother and childhood centers, within the framework of activating the President’s initiative to develop and improve the quality of services provided by basic care centers, and includes conducting a clinical examination to assess the general condition of the pregnant woman and the fetus, discovering risk factors that may accompany pregnancy, and vaccination against tetanus. Measurement of height, weight, blood pressure, and conducting various necessary analyzes to detect anemia, or to determine the mother’s need for an anti-D injection after childbirth or not, in addition to a urine analysis to detect albumin and urinary system diseases, and the necessary micronutrients are dispensed to the mother During pregnancy.
