Elaborating on this theme, Panot argued that the wealthiest citizens no longer contribute adequately to national solidarity. She targets in particular the billionaires, whom she presents as heirs rather than entrepreneurs who built their fortunes alone. Echoing language previously used by party colleague Manon Aubry—who famously labeled billionaires as harmful—the LFI leadership framed ultra-wealthy individuals primarily as inheritors rather than self-made entrepreneurs. According to party figures, the policy is designed to address a stark moral and budgetary imbalance, noting that the 500 wealthiest individuals have doubled their fortune over ten years of macronisme while homelessness and poverty persist on the streets.
Proposed Fiscal Overhaul and Safeguards
To fund its governance program, LFI’s platform features several concrete tax mechanisms aimed at high-net-worth individuals and large estates. Mathilde Panot defends in particular the reinstatement of the wealth tax, the creation of a “Zucman tax” on fortunes exceeding 100 million euros, as well as a cap on inheritances beyond 12 million euros transmitted. LFI also proposes fourteen income tax brackets, with a reduction for people earning less than 4,000 euros per month.

To counteract the risk of billionaires relocating their assets abroad to escape these new levies, Panot promised a differential tax
to continue taxing taxpayers who would leave France. Fellow party lawmaker Éric Coquerel supported these arguments, asserting that such extreme wealth concentration weakens the republican promise for the broader public.
