(ANSA) – BRASILIA, JULY 15 – With Brazilian President Lula “we noted with satisfaction the consonances that characterize the work of two such important multilateral forums, the G7 and the G20. “For my part, I thanked President Lula for his participation in the G7 in Borgo Egnazia and assured him of Italy’s commitment to the full success of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, starting with the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty”. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in statements to the press after the meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “Italy, the country that hosts the FAO and the World Food Programme, has invited Brazil to participate in the G7 Working Group on Food Security. I have reciprocated the trust by inviting Italy to join the Global Alliance to Fight Hunger and Poverty that we will launch in Brazil on the occasion of the G20”, said the Brazilian head of state, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, adding: “Italy’s pioneering role in debt-for-food mechanisms will be very valuable for our initiative”.
